Crafting Artistic Staircases and Hardwood Floors

At Ourada Designs, the crafting of staircases and hardwood floors is not just a task—it’s an art form that blends creativity, craftsmanship, and personal storytelling. From the initial design to the final polish, every project embodies our dedication to transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary places.

The Beauty of Custom-Made Staircases

Staircases do more than connect floors; they serve as focal points, art pieces, and expressions of personal style. At Ourada Designs, we specialize in creating bespoke staircases that are not only functional but are also breathtakingly beautiful. One of our standout projects is the Meier Cabin Staircase, which perfectly illustrates our commitment to both aesthetic and functional excellence.

For the Meier project, located in a serene lakeside community, the staircase was envisioned as a natural continuation of the home’s rustic, inviting atmosphere. The challenge was to create a structure that felt both organic and refined. To achieve this, we chose a combination of locally sourced woods that would complement the cabin’s existing decor and the stunning natural surroundings.

Selecting the Right Wood for Hardwood Floors

The choice of wood is crucial in defining the character of a hardwood floor. For the Meier Cabin, we selected a rich mix of honey locust, black walnut, and Japanese elm. Each type of wood brought its unique grain, color, and texture, contributing to a floor that was both visually appealing and durable.

Honey locust, known for its striking patterns and toughness, was used for the curving handrail of the staircase, acting as a warm welcome that guides you upward. Black walnut, with its deep, dark tones, provided a stunning contrast, emphasizing the curve of the staircase and enhancing the overall visual flow of the space. The Japanese elm, sourced from a serendipitous find in a local field, added a story of its own to the floor, infusing it with local history and a sense of place.

Integrating Staircases with Hardwood Floors

The integration of staircases with hardwood floors is a critical aspect of our design process at Ourada Designs. It requires meticulous planning and a deep understanding of materials and space. In the Meier Cabin, the staircase not only had to be visually integrated with the hardwood floors but also structurally sound and compliant with building codes.

The design process involved detailed sketches, 3D modeling, and constant communication with the clients to ensure that every element met their needs and expectations. The result was a seamless flow from the hardwood floors to the staircase, creating a cohesive look that enhances both the functionality and the aesthetic of the home.

The Artistry Behind the Scenes

Behind every staircase and hardwood floor, we craft, there is a story of artistry, challenge, and innovation. The Meier Cabin project was particularly memorable due to its scope and the creative freedom given by the clients. It allowed us to explore new techniques, such as incorporating curved logs that appeared to grow out of the floor and experimenting with different wood treatments that highlighted the natural beauty of the materials.

Our work at Ourada Designs goes beyond simple construction. It’s about creating a narrative through materials, design, and craftsmanship. Each project is a journey, and every finished floor and staircase is a testament to the trust and collaboration between us and our clients.

Whether it’s a multi-story staircase in a gated lakeside home or a custom-designed hardwood floor in an urban loft, Ourada Designs stands ready to bring our clients’ visions to life. With a focus on craftsmanship, client collaboration, and innovative design, we continue to set the standard for excellence in hardwood flooring and staircase construction. Each project is a new canvas, and we are committed to creating works of art that are not only seen but also experienced.
